COUNSELOR INFORMATION

A Note From

Isabella Burgess, MA, LPC-A

Taking the step to seek counseling is a big decision to invest in yourself. However, it can find a comfy spot on your to do list [for a few months] because the process can be overwhelming! Meeting someone new and sharing your story calls for a level of trust and personal understanding. The therapy room is a space all about you, but I get wanting to know a few facts about your therapist.

Fun Facts:

  • I am married, my husband is my best friend, and we have a sweet pup who keeps us busy.

  • Cooking and trying new recipes are by far my favorite hobby (think sourdough, from scratch, let me try to make it before buying it kind of deal).

  • I tend to “say it like it is” and I am very animated (sorry in advance!)

  • I was a competitive dancer for 14 years. If you are a competitive dancer we absolutely can incorporate this into therapy!

  • I grew up in a small town that is not so small anymore.

  • I am a spring/fall girl all the way.

  • Used to be a “Christmas decorations after Thanksgiving only…” but now… the idea is growing on me.

Why I Pursued This Field

I have faced my own journey through trauma and life’s challenges, and while it’s still a work in progress, I’ve learned the importance of having a space to process and recognize that “pushing through” isn’t the only way forward. Through my own personal journey, I felt called to create a space where people don’t have to pretend life is easy.

I wanted to provide practical tools for healing. This calling led me to pursue education and training to become a counselor. Now, I have the deep privilege to offer clients what I longed for myself for so many years: a safe space where they can remove their masks, truly be seen, and learn to let the person beneath the mask be recognized, supported, and free.

Therapeutic Approach and Education

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) providing care to individuals and pre-marital couples. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Youth Development Studies from Clemson University and my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University.

My specialties include trauma, grief, postpartum concerns, and supporting individuals navigating the complexities of autism spectrum disorder. I take a holistic, nervous-system-informed approach to care and, when requested, integrate interventions such as red light therapy, sound therapy, somatic practices, and vagus nerve work to address root causes of symptoms.

I am also passionate about premarital counseling, equipping engaged couples with practical tools like SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) to cultivate strong, healthy, and lasting relationships.

I use a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Family Systems Therapy, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals. I also offer faith and biblical incorporation into therapy when requested by the client. I continue to invest in my growth and learning to better meet your needs.

My hope is that clients leave each session feeling more equipped to navigate life's hurdles with a renewed sense of self. I would love to hear from you!
